The eight amendment referendum

"The state acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right."

This 43 words are the main conversation topic in the social and media ambient in Ireland. The abortion referendum is going to take place the 25th of May and the supporters of YES and NO are being campaining since a lot of time. Marchs across the main street of Dublin or rallies in theatres, also in the capital city are only two examples of what's been cooking in the irish society. And all of this under one rape case that had full all the newspapers covers day by day. The rugby players Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding was accused of rape a woman in June 2016 and last Saturday the veredict was not guilty. The social change that fronts the gaelic land is huge, due the influence that catholic church expands in the civil life of the irish people, controlling for example some schools and hospitals.
Also the feminist movement that is increasing in Europe against inequality and the women situations in cases like the rugby players have now a voice bigger than ever.
The results will define the actual state of opinion of the irish society about this topic, but the problem of non wish pregnancy's won't dissapear.
If YES wins, all the health structure must change, and if the irish population choose the NON option, the illegal abortions whith pills that had been bought on the internet -two cases everyday the organization Women help Women said- or the travels to the UK to end the pregnancy's will be continue.
